It soon became a family living room, was for her a source of both walking-around money and family pride in high school, and even now remains a part-time source of comfort, identity, and friendships nearly three decades old. Such is the nature of Kristee’s dedication. All those order tickets and the conversations behind them taught her a lot about the inner workings of the trade, to say nothing of human nature, and we have no doubt whatsoever that the cash register balanced down to the penny every night. In parallel, she pursued a remarkable career in softball, beginning at age 5. By 12, she had concentrated in fast-pitch; by 14, she was on the travel team; and by 18, she was representing the United States in the Spirit of America World Cup in Lyon, France, where one of her childhood coaches was taking leave from his position at Robert Morris University in Chicago to coach the US team. Realizing that his work was not done, he recruited her to RMU’s collegiate team with a full ride, and she obliged with four years of great ball that included giving the Cuban men’s team a run for their money in an exhibition game the next summer. She went on to complete a BA in Business Management, bringing to bear all those years of restaurant experience in accounting and interpersonal relations. The venue is also surrounded by residential units. To keep Apex as the pride of Bury St Edmunds and not the bane of its neighbors, the whole facility is constructed as a separate building on its own foundation, embedded within a much larger mixed-use structure. A warm personality that prefers a phone call over an email, Laura thrives in the collaborative nature of design. She likes to work backwards from the architect’s aesthetic vision to find acoustic solutions that work seamlessly. How she finds those solutions may seem like magic to an outsider, but for Laura it’s as simple as learning a new programming language. She is a natural at modeling software such as Grasshopper and Rhino, and used MatLab extensively to create the diffusion pattern used on the walls of the Ronald O. Perelman Center for the Performing Arts in New York. She has recently flexed her skills working on exhibit-centered design for the newly-opened John F. Kennedy Center Art and Ideals Exhibit as well as the continuing work on the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, while also staying close to her heart and home with continuing work at Jesse Jones Hall in Houston. In 2021 Laura with her advisor from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, published papers in Journal of Acoustical Society of America and Frontiers in the Built Environment. She is the one to call for business inquiries. Alongside her day-to-day work on proposals, she also sets the tone for Threshold’s voice as Chief Storyteller, despite a deep suspicion of being musically tone-deaf. Readers of Threshold’s collective bios may notice a trend among our consultants beginning first as young musicians, often times with parental influence. Oona failed out of piano lessons but she started writing stories as soon as she could stabilize a pencil. Her mother, also a writer and the parental influence here, taught her how to format a play at an impressionable age and to this day regrets it - suggesting at least once a year that law school is still a viable option. Oona holds an MFA from Northwestern University and has performed sketch comedy across Chicago since 2011. In 2013 she performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with the London-based group Stand Up Tragedy. Two of her short plays have been produced by Chicago Dramatists. Her full-length screenplay EXPOSURE won second place in the inaugural Krevoy Screenwriting Fund Prize. Pfeiffer, FASA Partner Scott’s path in architectural acoustics began on the elementary school stage, went on to roles in high school musicals and then recitals as part of his music education at Moravian College. With acoustics as his main interest, he completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics with Honors in Music and then moved on to graduate studies in the Acoustics Laboratory at the Technical University of Denmark. For three decades, Scott has participated in virtually every aspect of the acoustical consulting profession, from modeling and measurements to leading the design of complex rooms, audio and video installations, and electronic enhancement systems. Scott has been honored as a Fellow in the Acoustical Society of America for his accomplishments in the design of worship and performing arts spaces as well as his leadership in pursuing great Unanswered Questions, a topic he explored at length in the ASA’s Knudson Distinguished Lecture. He was keynote speaker at the University of Michigan’s Saturday Morning Physics conference, lecturing a rapt audience of 1,000 on physics, perception, and uniqueness. He has also served on the Knowles Hearing Center Advisory Board at Northwestern University and is an emeritus Board member of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Durham School Architectural Engineering Industry Advisory Committee. As the majors suggest, his interests lie in the intersections of music, technology, and art, and his pursuits bear this out. He has arranged, directed, performed, mixed and mastered in jazz, classical, Celtic, and electronic genres. For five years, he taught music theory and technique to grade school students in suburban Chicago. He is our resident expert on the design and assembly of tube-based audio electronics, plays guitar, saxophone, and piano, dabbles in trombone, trumpet, euphonium, clarinet, and flute, and sings when he catches his breath. He was honored in school with the Paul Bertolini Jazz Soloist Award at Notre Dame, and is the only one of us who appears on the same Irish traditional CD as Regis Philbin (who sings Too Rah Loo Rah Loo Rah). It’s a niche market, but he’s nailed it. Over the years, he has directed his focus to a remarkably broad range of roles, disciplines, and locations. He worked for an installation and rental house in Utah that got him into repairs, show setups, and mixing for rock concerts, the Sundance Film Festival, and the running of the Olympic Torch in Salt Lake City. From there, he moved on to design and engineering for musical productions, including South Pacific, Grease, and Les Miserables, at the outdoor Tuacahn Center for the Arts. Rob earned first a BA and then an MFA in Sound Design and Technology at Purdue University. The University Theatre and Hall of Music were playgrounds for someone with his background, and he wasted no time, designing sound and operating boards for plays and musicals, serving as house technician for touring shows in the Hall of Music, and even monitor mixing for B.B. King. Since joining Threshold, his extraordinary work with AV Design Systems has included the full design project for Brown University Performing Arts Center and Kellogg School of Management Global Hub - he was instrumental in creating the unique central video system for Northwestern’s Global Hub, which utilized state-of-the-art technology for distributing video over fiber to all applicable classrooms. She is active in the Acoustical Society of America, presenting in and chairing sessions on room acoustics for performance spaces, co-organizing the 2003, 2014, and 2019 Concert Hall Research Group Summer Institute, and co-authoring Classroom Acoustics: A Reference for Creating Learning Environments with Desirable Listening Conditions. She is currently serving her second term as a voting member on the ASA Books Committee representing the Technical Committee on Architectural Acoustics and is on the Advisory Committee for the Newman Student Award Fund. Robin has been an invited speaker on the topics of music and architecture for the LA Philharmonic’s Music for Elementary Educators series, at SCI-Arc as part of the “Stereolabs” Seminar which focused on the exploration of architecture and sound, and bringing mid-century masterpieces back to life at the International Theatre Engineering and Architecture Conference. This drive has always been with her. By the time she was 13 she had toured Copenhagen, Moscow and Minsk with the St. Louis Gateway Ballet Company and filled her spare time with musicals, flute, speech team, and the choir. One can imagine his serene and thoughtful manner equally at home in the wheat fields, the recital hall, and the trout stream. After not too many years he was playing lead roles in youth theatre and performing as a section violinist in the Regina Symphony Orchestra, somehow finding the time to develop a wonderful hand for pen and watercolor. He is the only one of us who has soloed for both Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and the Governor General of Canada, and not at the same time, either. After securing a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Wheaton College, he took his many skills to Judson University for a Master of Architecture, with acoustics in the back of his mind and a mentor, there, in professor and acoustician Ian Hoffman. In the midst of his studies, he interned at Threshold, sketching and coding his way into our hearts, and perhaps taking some inspiration back to Judson for his thesis work in parametric design for concert halls. He very quickly thereafter took his place at Threshold, still managing to perform regularly in his free time (and sometimes at work). Threshold studied of the Center’s acoustics and AV systems identified a host of facility-wide improvements, including compensating for the loss (due to age) of Atwood’s original electronic enhancement system. The new shell debuted to acclaim in the fall of 2014, in a flytower chock full of new rigging. It completes the room the visually and acoustically, embracing the orchestra and reawakening the warm, present acoustics the Center’s audiences had been missing for many years. As touring venues, the Atwood and Discovery have seen acts big and small from all corners of the world. Improvements to infrastructure and AV systems protect the audience from over-zealous amplification and elevate the already-high level of artistic quality for which the Center is known. Throughout, back-of-house support systems and lobby systems have been replaced and provide increased capability for sharing support space between the three vibrant theatres. The Hall became highly regarded as a venue for soloists, small ensembles, and impeccable amplified sound, but adjustments to Hall’s variable acoustic systems was not achieving an orchestral sound as present and lush as the architecture. The Kimmel Center’s charge to Threshold at the start of our work in 2009 was to build on the strengths while finding the yet-unrealized potential for good on-stage communication and orchestral presence and impact. Working closely with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Philly Pops, our evaluation began with listening from the stage and from the hall. Months of rehearsals and performances, including mock-ups and open conversations with the Orchestra and Kimmel Center staff, balanced with in situ acoustic measurements and computer model data, revealed a direction for initial modifications. In 2010 work began on a new ceiling for the pipe organ that not only improved organ sound but also orchestral warmth. Changes to stage walls in 2011 included new side stage towers that greatly improved communication for the orchestra and allowed changes to the canopy and reverberation chamber settings not previously thought possible. There is no substitute for listening – to the music or the musicians – when correlating phenomena, causes, history, and expectations. Taking the time to do this, and to use all available analysis tools, built confidence, and, ultimately, proved itself in the masonry and fine veneer. New stage walls, improvements to the canopy, and a massive ceiling for the organ chamber now yield presence, richness, and life never before heard in the room. Al Wasl Plaza An open space at the center of Expo 2020 Dubai combines breathtaking design, innovative technology, and an intricate domed trellis to incorporate an immersive projection experience. The plaza at the center of the 4.38-square kilometre site makes a dramatic impression on the millions of people visiting Dubai from around the world. Al Wasl Plaza is designed as a central hub for the exposition. The space brings people of all backgrounds together to "Connect Minds," a key ambition of the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) region. Al Wasl is the historical name for Dubai but also means "connection" in Arabic, reflecting both Dubai's goal of bringing people together at the Expo and the plaza's physical location at the heart of the site. The Trellis structure is infilled with fabric panels, allowing air and sound to move freely, while shielding visitors from the intense sun. The fabric doubles as a massive projection surface, with projectors and loudspeakers surrounding the audience, creating an immersive environment for both atmospheric and special event use. Sound control within the buildings and the separation of noisy below-grade circulation from the Plaza provide a pleasing acoustic environment for all experiencing this dense site. This presents many challenges while considering guidelines for public gatherings and social distancing, many of which may have a direct impact on acoustics. How can opera companies present the highest-quality artistic product in these non-traditional spaces? How can the nature of the operatic voice and the concept of storytelling be preserved while presenting a product in a way that it wasn’t designed for? And thinking beyond the first stage of re-opening, once the return to our traditional performance spaces occurs, companies will continue to seek out new audiences through alternate venues that do not provide the acoustic support of the voice from the stage. This session will provide thought-provoking discussion, artistic and acoustic considerations, and technology guidance for maintaining the integrity of the product both in the near-term return to public gatherings, and beyond. Details: When we gather to convey a message through opera, both the audience and artist crave the full breadth of sound. Modern compositions (and some in the traditional canon) push the boundaries of balance of the operatic voice with the instrumental forces. In the best of circumstances, the architecture of an opera house provides preferential acoustic support of the voice from stage over the orchestra in the pit. Audiences and artists do not remain in opera houses, however. And with the current pandemic, some companies may be left without their traditional performance spaces for quite some time. And as we return to public gatherings and performances, many organizations will resume their public performances in spaces that are not their traditional indoor theater to maintain social distancing. And even after we return to public gathering, we collectively seek new audiences through experimental spaces. Those spaces push the boundaries of what the natural voice or amplified sound can do. Outdoor festivals or non-traditional spaces for opera that may draw in new audiences may not provide an acoustic atmosphere supportive of the dynamic range of operatic sound. When working in spaces where additional lift is desired to regain the balance, the operatic voice does not lend itself to traditional close-mic techniques. The beauty and power of the voice are provided by different parts of the body - each having differing directivity which only develop the desired sound in combination with the acoustic environment into which they are placed. Artists and opera companies are left with many questions when planning their return to public performances: How can I preserve the nature of the operatic voice while in a non-traditional venue? How can I care for my artists and present the best quality product while maintaining social distancing for both audience and performers? Should I amplify the sound or not? How do I balance the acoustic needs with my budget? How can I coordinate and integrate with existing systems? Can I maintain the artistic aspects of the production that are uniquely suited to opera as an art form through the necessary technology in this alternate environment? The Midwest Offices of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), located in Chicago’s historic Civic Opera House, is the first tenant improvement project in the world to achieve certification through the Living Building Challenge™. In keeping with the NRDC’s mission to be the “Earth’s Best Defense,” the design demonstrates the organization’s commitment to a cleaner, stronger environment. To achieve Petal Certification, the project team focused on the Site, Materials, and Beauty Petals to create a vibrant and engaging workspace that supports the important environmental advocacy that takes place within it . Despite the fact that the project budget and schedule were both set before the team elected to pursue Petal Certification, the Midwest Offices were completed both on time and on budget. This accomplishment is a testament to both the commitment of the project team and to the feasibility of meeting the rigorous requirements of the Materials, Site and Beauty Petals without incurring additional costs. LOCALLY SOURCED, REUSED MATERIALS Further embodying the culture and spirit of NRDC, a number of the organization’s goals were addressed practically in the office design, and the new office blends this practicality with aspects intended solely for human delight. In order to reduce the global warming impact of construction, all materials and resources were locally sourced (including the staff that worked on the project) to reduce shipping and travel distances. These materials were then reimagined to match the spirit of the new office and bring in a new aesthetic – for example, etched glass from the old office depicting native Illinois prairie scenes was updated and installed in conference room doors in the new office. In addition, custom wall panels were constructed using wood trim found at the building reuse warehouse, the reception desk was fashioned from reclaimed wood, and the granite slab in the pantry was rescued from an old project that was never completed. These reused materials capture the nature of NRDC, but also add beauty and aesthetic pleasure to the office. NRDC used only materials and finishes with low quantities of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in order to minimize pollution and to protect the health of employees and visitors. Improved indoor air quality is not only important to the physical wellbeing of those within the office, but also provides an appealing and inspiring environment. Just two days after the office was opened, a few delivery people remarked on how the air smelled clean like trees and nature, and were shocked to find out that construction had only just been completed. While the air quality likely contributed to this observation, it is our belief that it also a result of the general spirit that the office exudes, from the open floor plan to the recycled woods and glass, that brings beauty even to the eyes of the passing visitor. The Baháʼí House of Worship is the second-ever constructed and the oldest surviving, with construction completed in 1948. As beautiful as this nine-pillared, quartz, and cement mixed concrete building is to believers and visitors alike, intelligibility and coverage were a problem for congregants. Recitations were from a single source in the main floor, underneath a dome that reached 138 feet high. Additionally, as the main floor was in the round, congregants had to either sit right in front of an unamplified speaker or hope any amplification wasn’t distorted. Threshold Acoustics was enlisted to assist the temple with improving its AV system without disrupting any of the architecture or drawing attention away from the beautiful lace detailing in the cast concrete. Creatively using space available, all loudspeakers and controls of the sound system are completely hidden within the architecture. The AV design centered around a new digitally steerable line array behind an acoustically transparent curtain for coverage of the main floor and three opposite alcoves. Small point source loudspeakers were retrofitted into existing but decommissioned duct openings at the apex of each of the remaining six alcoves. These loudspeakers improve intelligibility and coverage within the alcove seating areas, and each alcove zone can be turned on or off depending on if the zone is occupied or not. This further increases intelligibility by reducing the number of sound sources within the space that would otherwise cause excess reflections. A Neve Primary Source Enhancer was placed on the podium microphone input to further enhance gain before feedback and add warmth and a natural tonality for the presenter. A hyper-cardioid podium microphone and integrated low-profile stand provide excellent rear and side noise rejection allowing more flexible placement at the front of the worship space. In addition to AV assistance for the main congregation space, we assisted the House of Worship with improving AV and acoustic design for the second-floor Choir area. A supplementary Choir sound system utilizes existing loudspeakers that are repositioned to provide an aethereal dispersion within the worship space. Two cardioid condenser microphones with integrated low-profile stands provide excellent pickup of the choir for distribution to the choir loudspeakers and to new wifi enabled Assisted Listening System, as well as an auxiliary feed to the main floor for articulation enhancement. Control for the main floor AV design is easily found and configured by a touch panel behind the main loudspeaker curtain and by iPad for level control and zone muting. Threshold assisted on acoustics and AV design to reimagine this space for the health and wellness of the Beloit College campus while still incorporating the architectural features and industrial equipment of the power station. Space planning was critical to maximizing the programmatic areas harmoniously within the building. A suspended, three-lane track runs through all portions of the building, which houses a fitness center and recreational gym, eight-lane competition swimming pool, and the indoor turf field house. Yet the check-in area to meet with professionals to address mental health remains calm and confidential. While some areas required sensitivity regarding the physical and amount of noise and vibration surrounding it, Threshold worked with the design team to balance the right amount of activity to keep things lively but not chaotic. One example of this balance is the auditorium which lives in the heart of the building, in the turbine hall. Embracing its location meant also embracing the ensuing activity of the building at large: there is a batting cage nearby after all. Expanding on these sonic phenomena for her site-specific commission at Dia Chelsea, Norment will create distinct sculptural installations for the two galleries, which she will unite through a sonic composition. The work touches on the impact of maritime industry on the area as well as the role of society as a human construct in relation to the migration of bodies across the globe. What makes it so magical? Unsatisfied after his high school music theory course, he got a little closer to the source at Oberlin College, where he majored in physics while taking classes in jazz, music technology, and ethnomusicology at the Conservatory of Music. A summer research position in a UIUC Electrical and Computer Engineering lab that studied augmented listening technology introduced him to computational acoustics, which has been his passion ever since. He eventually found himself braving Canadian winters in Montreal for an MA in Music Technology at McGill University, where he focused on acoustic modeling of musical instruments for sound synthesis applications. He stumbled into architectural acoustics when he was able to witness the design of a variable acoustic system at a new performance research facility at McGill. Matt has published research in journals such as NIME and IEEE CAMSAP, and is active in his local AES and ASA chapters. He continues to compose for a gizmo called Le Bâton, a digital musical instrument he designed while at McGill. It is designed with awareness to the context of the overall site, both in relation to the Gothic-style adjacent buildings and the surrounding environment. The Chapel will have a perceived sense of mass and weightiness that evokes a feeling of permanence as seen in other buildings on campus. The building will elevate the harmony between the other buildings by having its own distinctly contemporary character. That character can be found in its unique shape, and one that is rarely friendly to acoustic intervention. Threshold designed an audio system that will fit the architecture, embracing its structure rather than working against it. In the Chapel’s circular shape and connected reflective spaces, visitors receive a sense of wholeness and invitation to community. Internally, the repetition of the circular motif further realizes the value of oneness of a campus community learning together to integrate the pursuits of faith and reason. Ample natural, diffuse daylight will wash the spaces within the new Chapel to provide an inviting and natural environment; a large oculus and skylight will be integrated within the sanctuary space’s ceiling in order to create a connection with the sky and heavens. It is both an elevated thoroughfare and a destination, a clear moment of intersection where two sides of the river converge and coexist. The Bridge offers layers of programs, presenting a new neighborhood park for the community, an after-hours destination for the nearby workforce, a retreat for residents and a new territory for tourists to explore. The intersection of the two paths shapes the central meeting point on the bridge—an open plaza and flexible venue envisioned to accommodate markets, festivals and theatrical performances. The paths that frame this plaza further enhance the bridge as a hub of activity, providing a sequence of zones designated for play, relaxation, learning and gathering. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Located in the heart of President Kennedy’s living memorial, this immersive exhibit uses the latest in digital technology to explore how the arts were infused into his personal and presidential life. The display links the arts to democracy, social change, culture and the White House itself through Kennedy’s eloquent writing and speeches. Pentagram’s exhibit design features a continuous direct-view LED wall that encircles the upper volume of the space to create a dynamic frieze, allowing visitors to vividly experience Kennedy’s oratory gifts, amplifying the themes of the exhibition. The immersive media environment was developed in collaboration with Batwin + Robin Productions and incorporates photography, text, and archival footage. Threshold’s challenge was to ensure that visitors could engage meaningfully with the exhibit’s content and message and avoid generating a confusing and chaotic acoustic environment. Achieving this goal required careful study and close collaboration within Threshold’s team. Specialty loudspeakers limit sound dispersion to tight zones where content can be heard, and careful planning of finishes and aiming angles controls the propagation of sound onward. She majored in Sound Engineering, with a minor in Electrical Engineering, marrying the creative with the technical: music theory, yes, but also hardware design. When not in classes, she was in the recording booth. She’s racked up numerous sessions with artists, making music with or for them and regularly recording audio for the School of Music, Theatre and Dance. Her audio engineering prowess grew to the point where she began training other students on how to use the sound booths. Since joining Threshold, she’s been seeing this industry from a completely different angle: learning the background and design that goes into the same spaces she’s experienced as an end-user. Who knew the design that goes into making a user-friendly plug and play system! But don’t think she’s out of the recording game completely. After some time off, she’s back at her own music and producing. That something turned out to be theater, and painting sets lead to learning audio for productions, which lead to sound design for theater at DePaul University. Her sound design major opened up a whole field of AV and allowed Sarah to dive into soundscapes and aural dimensions. Internships allowed her to understand how sound interacted in spaces, the importance of speaker placement and learn new ways to design shows. A natural collaborator, thanks to her time in theater, she’s interested in the large-scale effort that comes from working together on a team. She was drawn deeper into the AV world through the construction process, enjoying the chance to specify aspects of design and see it come to life. After graduation she moved to Denver, working for an Integration firm and assisting on the National Western Center, home of the National Western Stock Show – all cowboy concerns should be directed to her. She missed Chicago too much, however, and we’re thrilled to have her artistic eye on our AV team. As a mix of left- and right-brain interests she’s the perfect introduction to a firm that mixes the creative with the analytical. While quick on the soccer pitch and mathematically inclined, music became her passion and she graduated from University of Colorado at Boulder with a Masters in Music through their opera program. She moved to Chicago to pursue a singing career but the pandemic caused her to consider how she wanted to balance the uncertainty of a music career with her future hopes and aspirations. Thankfully for us, she found a balance at Threshold. Hyper-organized and a wiz at spreadsheets, she wears three hats at once: administrative concerns, accounting, and some Human Resources. Most recently she’s been our lodestar in managing new hire applications and onboarding. Creatively, she organizes our outings and internal get-togethers that are vital to the shared sense of community within our office. When she’s not keeping the office steadily moving forward, she’s often sharing the fruits of her other hobby: baking! At home, which includes two cats named Biscuit and Gravy, she’s a foodie that loves to bake while her husband loves to cook. For some this might sound exhausting but for Christine it’s a dream. After all, Christine comes to Threshold after having gone back to school for Computer Science but while taking a business class she discovered accounting and really liked it. Then, her overachiever status was set when she realized that with just a handful more classes she could graduate with a degree in Accounting, Financial Services, and HR. However, as she took these studies out into the real world, there was one minor hiccup: sitting still and deep-diving into data wasn’t her strong suit. Meanwhile, over the decades Christine’s work history took her to an insurance company, a recycling company, her own gift basket company, and a real estate company. It was with the real estate company that she officially started working in Human Resources, after informally managing it at previous jobs. Working in this role gave her the variety her livelong learner-brain craved: from recruiting to event planning, from onboarding to inter-office informational sessions she loved getting to know people and learning how she could help them do better at work. Hiccup resolved, she found out what she loved doing the most: working within the office to create a better overall work environment. While we at Threshold have breathed a sigh of relief with Christine as part of our team, Christine is also enjoying a corporate culture that’s a little less corporate and a little more culture: she’s already gone to see our very own Angela Born perform. At home, Christine finds relaxation in just about any craftwork: quilting, needlework, scrapbooking. The tubes are stacked and interlocked to create three interconnected domed chambers. Each chamber balances structural forces and supports its own weight, while attaining a height that enables a unique acoustic signature. The tubes feature a luminous silver exterior and vivid magenta interior, offering a visual contrast with the Museum’s historic nineteenth-century interior and colossal Corinthian columns. Within the chambers, visitors are invited to explore how a structure can modify and reflect sound. The whole structure acts acoustically like a clearing in a forest—some sounds are reflected back while others pass through the tubes, creating an intimate space within the large field of the Great Hall. Various interactive experiences including opportunities to play with tubular instruments, created by acoustic engineer John Tewksbury and percussionist Steve Bloom, amplify the installation’s specific acoustic properties. Together the installation, activities, and instruments activate the space, bringing people together to engage in a dynamic sonic environment. Growing up around his parents’ record collection had him engaged in the music scene from an early age – genre agnostic he’ll listen to anything – and he started wondering about all that goes on behind the scenes at concert venues. After running production crew and security over summers and getting a degree in Audio & Technology from University of Hartford he took a leap and moved to North Carolina with no connections other than his sister and the promise of better work opportunity. That promise paid off: bit by bit he made connections with others in the local AV community, doing residential AV, then some commercial work installing AV teleconferencing systems for conference rooms and AV broadcast systems for churches all the way to live production trailers for sporting events. North Carolina gave him more than just work experience. A rugby player since high school – he joined a local Men’s rugby club where he was elected as the backline captain for a few consecutive years. The growing rugby community in Charlotte provided a way to continue his love of the sport, at least until knee surgery in 2018 slowed down the number of games he’ll play in a year. He stays active finding new sponsorships for the club while also participating as support for the club’s charity work. Outside of rugby you can find him brewing his own beer, composing music or singing karaoke, and fostering dogs!
